I started Next to Nunn because I believe leaders can do better—and be better—without losing themselves in the process.
Over the years, I’ve seen the kind of leadership that drains people. Leaders who command but never connect. Cultures built on fear, not trust. And in all of it, one thought kept rising up in me:
“There has to be a better way to lead than this.”
I found my answer in the most unexpected place: how Jesus led. He met people where they were. He challenged them to grow. He served without needing the spotlight. And He reminded me—leadership isn’t about being in charge. It’s about caring for people deeply, making them feel known, and showing them they’re needed.
I didn’t set out to become a coach or mentor. But as I started building teams in my former career, I noticed something:
When people feel ownership—even without the title or paycheck—they rise.
They lead.
They bring others along.
That changed everything. I didn’t want to just manage people—I wanted to empower them. I wanted to be the kind of leader who helped others become everything they were capable of.
So I shifted from leading for myself to developing others—and I never looked back.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned?
That the real work of leadership starts with self-awareness.
I used to bulldoze people with good intentions and fast results—but without the emotional intelligence to see how I was affecting those around me. I had to grow. To slow down. To listen.
That’s why I love tools like Everything DiSC® and The Working Genius—they helped me better understand myself and others. They helped me stop leaving damage behind me and start creating safe, empowering environments where others could flourish.
I’ve been under bad leadership. I’ve also been bad leadership.
I know what it feels like to feel unseen, unheard, and unvalued. And I’ve seen what happens when someone shows up, believes in you, and draws out what you didn’t even know was inside of you.
Leadership has the power to make or break someone.
That’s why I care so deeply about helping leaders lead well.
Because when we get this right—when we lead with integrity, humility, and purpose—we create cultures that don’t just produce results… they change lives.
As an ordained pastor, my faith is the foundation of my leadership.
Jesus modeled the kind of wisdom, humility, and strength that the world desperately needs. He challenged me to pray for the leaders I struggled with—and that prayer shifted everything. It gave me empathy, vision, and a new way to see people.
That’s what drives my work: helping leaders see differently. Lead differently.
What I Believe
These values shape every coaching conversation, culture audit, training, and retreat I offer. I don’t show up as a guru—I show up as a guide. One who listens deeply, speaks truth in love, and walks beside you as you build what lasts.
It’s not just a play on my name. It’s a promise.
That you don’t have to lead alone.
That you can have someone next to you who gets it?
Someone who’s been there.
And someone here to help you become the leader you were created to be.
